MINI EVENT → TANABATA

MINI EVENT ➜ TANABATA

Tanabata is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.

In present-day Japan, people generally celebrate this day by writing wishes, sometimes in the form of poetry, on tanzaku, small pieces of paper, and hanging them on bamboo, sometimes with other decorations. The bamboo and decorations are often set afloat on a river or burned after the festival, around midnight or on the next day.

Here, in Holly Heights, granting wishes is something that happens on occasion, but has never been afforded to everyone. This time around, the chance to have your wish granted, no questions asked is finally here! There is a catch though: with all these residents, the landlord can only do so much without winning Pushover of the Year Award.

At 8PM, in a little less than two hours, bamboo trees will appear in the yard of every occupied house, as well as four tanzaku in each houses mailbox, one for each supposed family member. Each resident has the chance to write down a wish, be it an item, a hope, a want, a yearning, a scenario, a gift, whatever they may wish for. Because it's their mind doing the wishing, they can wish for whatever they'd like. 5 wishes will be granted, no questions asked, and the lucky persons will be chosen by a randomizer.

Four not enough for you? Well, 5 other wishes will be granted but...not exactly in the way they'd like to expect them. Either the opposite of what the want could happen, they could be given something completely different from what they asked for, the situation they've wanted could go awry or be different from what they imagined.

Either way, wishes granted or not, it's always nice to celebrate holidays as a family, right? So have fun putting your wishes on your trees. Because it would be foolish to only allow one day, and one that is fading fast, for wishes to be put up, you'll be able to put up wishes from the time the long post goes up to the midnight of the 11th, meaning the trees will stay there ICly until then as well (they'll then spontaneously combust, so get your smores ready). That means a little more than 4 days. On the 12th, names will be randomized for the 10 wish grantees and they will be notified once their names will be randomized.

Some things to note: Please make sure that in your tags, you wishes are stated clearly. You can reveal the wish in any part of your thread or tag, it would be in the best intrest of you, your character, and their wish. Only those that tag the entry will have their wishes counted. Also, those that wish for I want to go back home or something to that effect will of course be negated. This will be explained on the log post again as well as in the instructions given to your character. Instructions for the festival will be given to the characters in their mailbox with their slips of paper. Look forward to the log going up shortly! In the meantime, brainstorm your wishes!
