I'm here to introduce a guy who claims he's uninteresting but is contrarily so. This is the nameless medicine seller, or a kusuriuri, from a little known anime called Mononoke. (No, not the movie. It's a spin-off of Ayakashi Classic Horror.) Mononoke is a supernatural mystery series set in the Edo era in Japan. It's like watching a woodblock print come to life. But forgive me if I gush.

This guy is a medicine seller by trade, and very good at what he does. But he also hunts Mononoke, spirits which have latched onto strong negative emotion and have transcended from the spirit world to the human. He is very traditional and somewhat proper with an odd, sometimes snide sense of humor. What he is isn't exactly know, but he is some sort of supernatural being, but that doesn't matter here, does it? He'll be slightly humanized, losing the pointed ears and his pronounced canine fangs. And his ability to control ofuda and some minor telekinesis. And all his cool supernatural toys. He probably still has a supernatural sense, but that's pretty useless here.

I forgot to mention, he's in house 1436!

I really wish it had been just a bit longer. Maybe another story or three.

It was so well done. the subtleties to change the mood of the stories. I would've liked to have seen more mononoke, to learn more about the various ayakashi, and see more about who the medicine seller really is, like the origin of his abilities, where he comes from, does he ever age? So many questions, though it is the mystery that is enticing.

oh man I'm really excited about this!! The episode with the cat was always really unnerving to me and there was this other one that scared me...I must have blocked it from my memory. but with this uninteresting door to door salesman things wont be dull ;)

Oh yes. It is a horror series. It's so beautiful but it really can be creepy. But worry not! No creepy things here since there aren't mononoke or ayakashi. :D

He'll just be that strange neighbor.

Mononoke has always been one of those series I meant to try (because it is so beautiful argh) but I never got around to it. ;n;

It's absolutely gorgeous. It's like watching woodblock prints come to life. It's really surreal and all the visuals play along with the story. There's an entire story that plays with the ideas of color and scents.
