oh baby youuuuu, you got what i neeee-eeeeed.

Hey, dudes & dudettes! I'm Lucy and I bring with me Quistis Trepe from some obscure game you've probably never heard of called Final Fantasy VIII! She's set up as a spouse in house #1468! Her canon point is Disc Two, before going to Trabia Garden.

I don't like to do intro posts, so I will probably bum around until that newbie log. My motto is "if it's dumb, I want to RP it," so please come to me if you have really stupid ideas and need someone to jam with!!

I can be found on AIM at instructor fourteen (or my old one, candyfloss branch if I'm playing sneaky-sneak) and plurk at [plurk.com profile] esuna (this is where I talk about RP and dogs)!

Haha, yeah, I actually think we've spoken on Michi's plurks before!

And in all fairness, I can totally see why the DoC hate happens, even though I like it okay. For me, it doesn't feel like the world build changed a whole lot, it just got updated to the post-FF8 (and FF10) style. Crisis Core shows it a lot better, because it's set pre-Meteor, so you don't get any of the major alterations from AC and DoC...

I also had a pretty long conversation with a friend a while back over how I actually like Lucrecia because they made her such a flawed character who made terrible life choices, lmao. Like, if you just look at FF7 itself she's almost too perfect and sympathetic. DoC really deconstructs that, but doesn't make her a bad person, just someone with really horrible judgment... who made a lot of mistakes. And didn't realize it until it was way too late. I still feel bad for her, but she's not wholly innocent, either.

But now I'm rambling, oops. /also played Lucrecia once upon a time...

we might have!! i am really awful in group conversations, but i try i try....,.,...,,,...

to me, it felt like a lot of it changed alongside the update? idk. i always appreciated the mash-up of old school fantasy world with tech and i think the original handled it really well and interestingly, but it didn't have the same charm in latter installments for me. i confess to not having played crisis core, but around the time it came out i had a really demanding job and up until recently i honestly haven't had much free time at all.

see, i kind of just liked... not knowing much about her? i like when some things are left behind and not touched on. then again, i also like the idea that the whole world blew up at the end of ff7 and nothing worked out. OH BOY WE GOT AN ANGSTY MC ANGSTER HERE!!!!

a lot of it was i liked that vincent had moved on to some degree and then they were like YEAH NO LET'S CUT THEM WOUNDS OPEN!!! but again, most of my issues are with worldbuild and petty stylistic choices

my opinion is always invalid, remember this!!

Shush you, you have lots of valid reasons!

Like, the whole mashup of old school fantasy with tech thing is exactly what I was talking about with the original game having its own charm! FF7 proper really showcased it in the visual style, even though technology was pretty hugely part of the world. I don't think FF8 really threw the balance a whole lot further towards tech, but it certainly updated the visual style so it seemed more modern and less connected to the old-school fantasy style. That's how I feel about the Compilation titles... it makes it feel more modern, like the other FF titles of the early-to-mid 2000's. Even though, when you get down to it, it's still the same world. If that makes sense?

One of the things I really appreciated was that they used DoC to really develop characters that didn't get much focus in the original game. Reeve, Vincent, Yuffie, Lucrecia... I think it did repeat some things, but they were kind of making up for those characters being so "minor" in the original title. And admittedly, I hated not knowing much about her because it made her a bitch to RP, lol. (Technically, she still is, because she's kind of a bitch... o.o)

But again, that's just my feelings on it! Yours are perfectly valid, too! I just apparently feel like sharing tonight. xD

Heh, for me it was like... the Compilation titles actually made me appreciate the cast and world a lot more than I originally did (which was about the same - I liked 'em all okay). I did technically RP from it, but... I barely count Lucrecia, since my version of her was like... 90% headcanon...

But hey, VI is actually my favorite of the 2D era! Along with VIII from the Playstation era and X (counting X-2, I suppose) from the PS2 era.

I have very unpopular tastes in Final Fantasy games. xD
